Let's Ring It In Right!

I have been holding on to these for awhile now but found them oh so appropriate for this occasion.

Have a very happy New Year's and see you in 2011!!

Strange as It May Seem

So after some last minute planning to go to Amsterdam for the New Year as an alternative to our original plans to meet up with friends in Barcelona, B and I have finally decided to ditch flying for saving up some money and enjoying ourselves at home without dealing with freezing temps and long commutes. Not such a bad idea since I was getting pretty stressed just thinking about the traveling. Now we'll actually be able to check out some of those nice restaurants we've been dying to try. B has also been wanting to add a touch of sophistication to our lifestyle by going to the symphony or seeing a play. And you know what? I'm all for it. Something low key sounds like the perfect beginning to the New Year's to me. Although, I don't think I would mind a little fun for a change either. I'll let you know how it goes.

Holiday Cheer for the Soul and for the Tummy

bacon-covered dates with goat cheese (in case you were wonderin')

Ooops, forgot to take a photo of my Christmas outfit, so instead, I have photos which I've been meaning to post from a lovely dinner get-together at our friends' new home. What better way to break in a new house than with steak and potatoes. Love the delicious twist on the potatoes au gratin (yes, those are purple potatoes) and the amazingly juicy steaks were cooked on a commercial-style grill with infrared technology. Fancy!

Thanks Ariel and Jen for truly satisfying my stomach in ways I never could have imagined!

In other holiday news, our plan to hook up with friends in Barcelona is quickly turning into a pipe dream, but we may relive our first trip together in Amsterdam and Bruges instead. Anyone have a clue how New Year's is in Amsterdam?

Looking Sharp

//United Colors of Benetton sweater and skirt / Liz Claiborne purse / Urban Outfitters "intelligent reader" glasses / vintage boots//

A new haircut. My surviving basil cuttings (whoo! I could be rid of that black thumb!). and a pair of non-rx glasses (over contacts mind you).

This outfit makes me feel like such a schoolgirl/anime character. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose. At least I accomplished it without plaid and the typical "V" sign. I especially love how soft the pink and gray combo look paired together.

Guess what holiday is coming up? I hope everyone is as excited as I am. What could be better than time with family, hot chocolate, and surprises.

DEVINE│FUGATE│MEDINA

I recently attended an event in honor of three finalists of the John Ross Palmer Escapist Mentorship Program. Watching the thriving art community come together to support local artists is a constant reminder that the Houston art scene is alive and kicking. All three artists, Ryan Fugate, Kelly Devine, and Edgar Medina, had beautiful works on display, but I do have a special place in my heart for Kelley Devine's womanly portraits. The faces of her delicately-rendered women have such emotion and solemnity that you can't help but be drawn into her paintings.

Just to bring a little fashion into the picture, the event was hosted at the lovely and amazing home of the owner of AA Concepts, an ever-expanding empire of concept stores/boutiques. What can I say? The guy knows his fashion and art and clearly, discovered the secret formula to running a successful clothing store. I wouldn't mind walking in his footsteps one day.

And of course, it just wouldn't be right without sneaking in a photo of me in my winter wear, since I've been slackin' on my style posts lately. You can thank Oliver for this one.
