I'm starting to realize that it may be getting too hot in this city to wear pants especially the dark-colored variety. In Houston, the summer heat comes prematurely and in full force scaring away those who don't embrace it like a quirky flaw. I was born and raised here and have come to accept the heat as an excuse to wear short shorts and barely there tees. Bryan, on the other hand, is hoping that we can move out of this place for more terrain and colder weather. My top choice would be Austin. Still close to the family but just enough hills in the area to keep B interested. Plus, we all know there's an AMAZING music scene there. Bryan's top choice is somewhere in North Carolina. You heard me. If someone can convince me that North Carolina is a happenin' spot, then I may be open to making my potential future home there. BTW, "picturesque" is not the magic word.

This purple tee with the funky graphic was designed by my friend, Ack!. He's the sweetest person and does killer (a.k.a- supremely cute and colorful) graffiti both commissioned and not. Check out his Flickr site.

Retropolis- My Favorite Vintage Hideaway

Photobucket

You can literally bury yourself in the depths of vintage goodness here. I try not to go too often because it can strangely suck up hours of your time (and money) as if you were lost in a wormhole. Retropolis is a 2-story haven full of old random housewares, lots and lots of vintage clothing, and accessories galore. Upon first glance, it looks like a really big vintage store, but it actually houses different vendors. One downside is that if you happen to stumble upon the most amazing rain boot, good luck in finding the other half of the pair. Shucks. On the upside, if you have the time and proper digging skills, you will find that other boot plus other treasures that have been overlooked.

Here are a couple of my purchases. I gave into the rug trend and can't wait to wear this offbeat coat in the winter. Can you guess what I'll be doing with the purse?

This is one of my fave cafes in the area. Yes, it's in a shopping center but don't let that deter or deceive you. This is a Houston-owned restaurant brought to you by the same people who own Pink's Pizza (some of the best pizza in town) and Lola's (have not tried). Plus, the staff is super friendly. Normally, I like sitting at the counter to watch my food being cooked and talk to the chefs, but I was feeling a little loner-ish today. That's what too much vintage shopping can do to you.

My dinner. Bul Gogi (Korean style BBQ). They even included some sambal chili sauce on the side to give that extra spicy kick.

I'm not one to wear long, flowy skirts, but I just couldn't pass this one up. It fits to a T and makes me feel a little goth and oh so hippie. Since these days I'm all about trying out new clothing genres, I can check "goth hippie" off my list.

From Gloom to Bloom

A screenshot of my background on B's computer. I could seriously stare at this forever.
Mr. Owens, I love you. (I really, really do)

Ok, that may have come off a little creepy, but I am enamored with all his draping, darkness, and structural pieces. There's something about the futuristic gloominess to the collection above that people would seriously think I fell off my rocker if I dressed like that. They may even try to get me some help. Well, ladies and gents, the only help I need would be in the bank account department because I could seriously use those boots (and jacket and oh yeah, how about those fur vests too) in my wardrobe.

On the opposite color spectrum, I found some swoon-worthy pieces that I would not mind wearing the rest of the spring/summer season. Bring it on! More pinks, nudes, and subtle grays please...

I've been meaning to take these photos off my computer for awhile. What better time to do it than when my computer decides to cut out on me? I really need to get better at backing up my files. About three months ago, my 3-year old computer finally shut its sleepy eyes. I sent it all the way to Florida to get the video card fixed and now it's back to having the same problem. Luckily, my hard drive is still intact, so I was able to transfer my files over to Bryan's computer.

Technology can be such a blessing but can also cause so much stress! Then again, I feel like I often take it for granted. The world moves so quickly these days that sometimes I feel like I need to take a step back. Can you believe the internet has only been available to the masses for about 10 years? Crazy, huh? For some of you, it's all you've ever known. I remember watching a show that talked about this innovative thing called the "internet" and how people could communicate to others around the world via the computer. I was so excited to finally try it out. And look at me NOW!

We've come a long way baby!

Lady G in the House

Photobucket
Ok, not really but when I stepped through the doors, I thought I walked into the wrong place. Just a recap of the end to my wonderful day. As you can see, I am priming myself to take over for the Cobrasnake. Probably need some more naked ladies though.
