The Counter: One Big Meaty Burger

Sorry for the crappy phone pics, but just had to show off my really big mouth trying to overtake a mega 1/2 pounder. Hands down the best burger I've had in awhile. The modern diner vibe also makes for a good casual outing.

The Counter has fresh, made-to-order burgers and other items on the menu like these delish parmesan and sweet potato fries.

I know, I know. I leave a mess after I eat, but it was seriously that good. Looks like a velociraptor tore through it, no?

Hopefully, I'll be getting to do a lot more food posts because although I love fashion, food is always the quickest way to my heart! I don't know how many of you are married, but marriage requires a fine balance of getting what you want without coming off like a nag. That goes for the man in the relationship too! This past weekend, my hubby managed to figure out the right way to get me to do his bidding.

After coming home from a long work week, Bryan surprised me with reservations to Pesce, a restaurant that's been sitting patiently on my list for a very long time. The atmosphere and service was excellent. Shellfish, for me, is always a special treat since I have yet to attempt to cook it at home. Later that night, after a drink or two, hubby eventually revealed to me that while he did want to take me to a nice relaxing dinner, he was also hoping that I'd finally finish sewing the pair of pants of his I've been working on for a week. It's not that I was trying to avoid sewing the darn thing. I was simply taking a break after a couple of frustrating attempts of transforming his slacks into a pair of shorts. Yeah, you didn't know I could do it either, huh? Hubby had come up with this new strategy to channel his negative emotions through other means. Well, if hubby's new method of channeling his anger involves pampering me by way of food, I say sign me up! That night, I got a well-deserved seafood meal, and someone else got a new pair of shorts.

In the Rough

// Forever 21 sunnies and top / vintage shorts and beatle boots / Desmo bag / bracelet from local shop / China Glaze "Lemon Fizz" nail polish //

Found this fly sweatshirt at Forever sitting by its lone self. My wardrobe is severely lacking in huge obnoxious diamond motifs, so of course, I knew it had to be mine! It's really comfy and can double as pjs san pants for when I'm feeling really risque.

When the heat index reaches 105, which is what's been happening here, you quickly realize that shorts really are your best friends. The other day, I picked up an armful of old school highwaisted ones at the thrift store for a total of $5. When hubby said, "Eww, those are sooo '90s!" I knew I was doing something right.

Tossin' and Turnin'

// Isabel Marant silk tunic / vintage diy shorts / Foley + Corinna Mid City Tote / vintage belt / Charlotte Russe cateye glasses / Deena & Ozzy sandals / vintage tri-color necklace / Forever 21 stone necklace //

It was so hard getting up this morning! After a night of trying out this simple recipe (thanks Issa for the inspiration!), throwing back a couple of drinks at the bar while waiting for the chicken to braise, and watching A-Team, I'm surprised I made it up at all. Ah well, I guess having to go to work in the morning is the inevitable evil force that kicks me out of bed sometimes.

In other adorable news, we have recently acquired a new addition to our backyard. We call him Baxter, but we're still not sure if it's a boy or girl. This little kitty stray is too cute for words, but poor thing is still afraid of people. We've giving it food and water every day and bribing it with turkey and tuna, in hopes of one day winning its affection.

Bryan was extremely bored while he was home, so I will leave you with his masterpiece:

Christmas in July

Have you seen the new Madewell Fall Lookbook? It has me totally pining for cooler weather but not in the usual bundle-me-up way. I was expecting to see the typical chunky knits, woolly leggings, and heavy coats but instead, it's all about classic transitional pieces with a quirky twist.
Plus, the styling is perfect for the warmer winters here in Texas.

You can see the rest of the Lookbook here.
