Danny Nguyen Couture

What do you get when you mix Karl Lagerfeld and a ninja? Well, I'm not really sure, but it might look something like 25-year-old Danny Nguyen, the first designer I had the pleasure of working with at his runway show for OCA's National Convention which was held in Houston this year. (Go Houston!) His current collection is a modern take on traditional Asian dresses including the Vietnamese Aodai. Danny learned the tricks of the trade from his mother, who is a seamstress and now helps him out at his studio/tailor shop. He does most of the sewing himself right down to the beading and unique origami-style embellishments. The dresses are definitely showstoppers with their bright colors and structural details. His fall collection sounds intriguing, but I'll keep those details under wraps until it's revealed.

The rad safety pin bracelet was created by her husband specially for her. Awww. I also happen to run across his site if you're interesting in purchasing one. (I swear I wasn't stalking!)

One of my favorite hair styles of the evening. Love this 80s look. It makes me wanna go out and get a crimping iron!

All the gorgeous models were either current Miss Chinatown contestants or past winners.

I could actually see myself in this beautiful Barbie pink cocktail dress. Seeing the contrast of the pink with the black made me fall in love with the girly hue all over again.

Danny also informed me that Houston will be having its first Fashion Week in October! That is incredibly exciting news for a city that has been slowly revamping its image by being more versatile. Now all I need is a front row seat!

  1. Hi. I'm confused. Maybe I have brain drain just as I have body drain from too much time on the elliptical. Sigh. So, that's you in at least one of those pictures? They are absolutely beautiful. You make me want to Houston in October for the Fashion Week. Keep us posted about the details in case I'm able to go.

  2. Oh, haha. Sorry, I was not one of the models. I was actually a co-chair of the reception that had the fashion show. I helped dress the models and assisted the designer with whatever he needed. So, no, your brain is still intact and sorry for the confusing post!
