SIGNATURE SCENT //

Photobucket

I've had three signature scents in my lifetime. The first one being ck1, which I started wearing in high school for its clean, cool, and fresh scent.  Apparently, the word got out, and it soon became one of my best guy friends' signature scent as well.  Argh... who knew that whole unisex gimmick would backfire on me.  With that snafoo, it was my cue to find something new.

Next up was Lancome's Tresor, which was soft and feminine with a bit of sultry sweetness.  If a perfume could make you feel pretty, this one did just that.  My narcissistic side loved it when a guy friend would tell me I smelled good.  That began my long love affair with this perfume.  The layered upside-down pyramid bottle looked lovely on top of my dresser, and it made me feel good wearing it.  I eventually had to wean myself off of it after it steadily lost its potency.  It began to wear off quicker as a I got older and the scent no longer felt like me.

A couple of years ago, I found my third signature scent, White Musk by The Body Shop. An unlikely character of the three.  No trendy big brand, but a low key choice from a store in the mall that I normally pass up.  This one was actually found while searching for a gift for my grandmother.  The baby-powderish scent is subtle but girly and the "musk" fragrance has always been a favorite of mine ever since my mom brought roll-on versions of it home with her Avon orders.  I know this is a late post, but the Eau de Parfum, Perfume Oil, and the sweeter Libertine solid in a heart tin were my "big" Black Friday purchases of 2012.  As much as I tried to ignore those crazy post-Thanksgiving sales, 50% off The Body Shop was too good to pass up especially since I was going to purchase the perfumes sans discount anyway.  Yes, I got my mother hooked on the scent as well, and she gets me to purchase them for her as often as I can.  The cute little travel-sized solid is perfect for when you're on the go or afraid of leaking perfume in your purse.  Just don't mistake it for lip balm!

Do you have a signature scent or do you prefer wearing different scents to fit your mood?  I confess I do have other scents lying around (remainder bottle of Tresor and Marc Jacobs Daisy) but White Musk is the one I pick up the most!

    1. Me too! It still smells good to me. I wonder if it would be weird to go back to an old scent?

    1. I went to check out Allure after your comment, and it is quite a lovely scent! Chanel makes some great classic perfumes. I really like Chanel Mademoiselle. I tend to get drawn to the sweeter fragrances.

  3. Nice...I usually have two...Fan di Fendi pour homme, which I like because it has kind of a sweet and frutal scent but not too overpowering so it makes a great transition from day to night; when I am really going for the cool, city, modern vibe I usually use Armani Diamonds, it is also the scent people have complimented me about the most.

    1. I'm all about the versatile scent that works well at night as much as it does during the day. I love it when a man wears cologne. My husband is sensitive to smells, but I purchased Givenchy Play for him as a gift and he has quickly gotten acclimated to it. Now he wears it all the time!

    1. Yes, I remember there was a YSL perfume I wanted to try but completely forgot about. I believe it was the Parisienne. Thanks for reminding me!

  5. Not familiar with the Bodyshop's White Musk but I was very familar with their Dewberry fragrance which everyone wore at school to the point I couldn't go near the Bodyshop. I used to wear Tresor when I was younger as well (in my early twenties - gosh I sound so old) before I moved on to the greener scents which I now favour. You have to experiment a little before you find your way. I'm now on Prada d'Iris - quite green and fresh. CK1 I always associate with my best friend at school. It's amazing what associations you have with fragrance - it can transport you back just like that.

    1. Sue, you don't sound old at all! I used to wear Tresor in my early-to-mid twenties as well! I've always loved the Prada scents, so I will have to check out their greener line the next chance I get. Yep, my perfumes do mark different periods in my life which is kinda neat now that I look back on them.

  7. I know what you mean. I have had a favorite for the past years as well, Coco Chanel Mademoiselle, but I do have two other perfumes as well.

    1. I really love the smell of Chanel's Mademoiselle. Hmm... Chanel might have to come next on my list...

  8. My favorite smell is "clean." :-) These 3, for me, come closest:

Kai because I love the smell of gardenias.
Diptyque's Olene because I love jasmine (it also has wisteria and honeysuckle).
Le Labo's Fleur D'Oranger 27 because I love orange blossoms. This one's a little stronger than the above 2 so I don't tend to wear it to work. Also, Le Labo makes their fragrances to order and put your name on the label!

    1. We have a new Le Labo in Saks, so I will definitely stop by the next time I'm there. I regret not visiting the Diptyque store while I was in NY since I keep hearing about their fabulous scents. Might have to make a pit stop when I'm in NY in Feb.!
