Eating Like a Caveman

These past couple of months, I've been trying something new and exciting. I stumbled across the Paleo diet while searching for healthy meal plans and found it to be a refreshing way to mix up the old food routine without forgoing too many of my favorites. Meat, fruit, veggies in. Grains, dairy, and legumes out. Of course there's more to it, but you get the idea. Being a hardcore "oatmeal for breakfast" girl, I had to figure out an alternative to my favorite grain. I starting centering my breakfasts around eggs and mixed it up from there. Since eggs have always been a weekend treat, it was fun to incorporate them into my daily routine with a side of fresh fruits and sometimes sliced smoked salmon. For those who once thought eggs took too long to cook, I found a quick method that takes about as long as my oatmeal prep. The amazing egg in a cup! Seriously, so good and fast!

My version of Eggs in a Cup:
- Lightly spray oil (olive or any nut oil) in a demitasse cup
- Break 2 eggs (or egg whites) in a cup
- Add a little bit of almond milk
- Sprinkle with black pepper and Italian seasoning
- Whisk eggs
- Microwave for about 1 min 40 secs (don't forget to put a paper towel on top!)
Voila! Perfect cup-shaped eggs with a fluffy yet creamy consistency.

Below are some of my breakfast creations:

Zucchini Potato Fritters!  Recipe can be found here

I also find myself not as tempted to eat the bread at restaurants and making healthier choices when eating out like this Pecan-Crusted Rainbow Trout w/ sauteed spaghetti squash (it only looks like pasta), tiny green beans, and jumbo lump crab lemon butter from Canopy.

I Like It Thick!

I've been incredibly excited about my friend's endeavor into the chocolate world especially since I've been developing an addiction to dark chocolate lately.  If you live in Brooklyn, you may have seen Christina donning bright orange garb and a headdress.  Yes, a headdress.  I always knew she was a little eccentric in high school, but her funky personality has finally paid off.  She's her own spokesmodel when it comes to her company, Dolce Vite.  For sure, you couldn't miss her even if you tried.  I wanted to share this cute video that Dolce Vite just came out with touting their thick dark Italian chocolate treat, Chocolatto:

More Florals and a Fashion Emergency

// Etoile Isabel Marant blouse / vintage shorts / Zara sandals / Liz Claiborne bag //
A pretty summery outfit for someone who's rarely caught in shorts and sandals.  With this crazy heat though, you don't have much of a choice if you're running around the city. Here's my second Etoile floral shirt from IM's Spring 2012 collection.  What can I say?  She has a knack for spring florals.  The western detailing on the back is my favorite part, adding a little unexpected edge to this girly top.

The cutout sandals were a necessary purchase while I was away in Taiwan.  Unfortunately, my favorite pair of sandals broke beyond repair during the trip, and I had to find a replacement stat.  Frantically dragging the crew to Zara, I came out with this asymmetrical strappy pair, which I've been pretty happy about.  Alas, that happiness was short-lived as one of the little leather bands holding in the strap broke on the second wear.  With the band being too thick to sew, my only option has been the all-mighty super glue.  Not sure how long it will last, but it's probably not a bad idea to keep super glue handy at all times for such emergencies.
