Wicked Eyes

Gorgeous photos of Houston's own, Angelique Gioldasis, by Austin photographer, Alexandra Valenti. Angelique always looks amazingly fierce especially in Dior's Poison campaign.

Get a tour of Alexandra's home here and her latest photo shoot with Wild at Heart's, Kelly Ash here.

Color Party: Pink & Black

// 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 //

This color roundup was inspired by the adorable Markus Lupfer shorts. Pink is typically such a girly color but the black adds a nice masculine touch while still keeping the sense of softness intact.

Olive and Snake

// Target tee / GAP snake-print skinnies {similiar in a cool color here} / Minimarket boots {try this suede and leather version} / vintage bracelet / Liz Claiborne bag / pendant from Green Dragonfly / Skagen watch //

I'm really all about simple outfits lately. I mean, come on, you don't get much simpler than a long comfy tee and skinny pants. I guess at this point it's all in the details.

P.S.- If you have a Target nearby, check out their selection of basics. It's one of my favorite places for simple tees that are soft, affordable, and usually come in a variety of colors!

Camouflage, You're A-OK

I've never been a fan of camouflage, but seeing these pants from the TEXTILE line of Elizabeth and James is making me rethink the blobular print. It's styled to perfection here, and I'm also pretty excited to see Bambi as the face of the Fall 2012 lookbook. Heavy brows and barely there makeup are just what I would have imagined for this collection.

Makr

For the simple, utilitarian bag, I have my eyes on these by Makr.

I don't really have the opportunity to wear a backpack now that I've been out of school for quite awhile, but I love how the foldover totes make a great casual alternative to the 3.1 Phillip Lim "31 Hour" bag.
What do you think?

Prints that Make You Go "oooh"

// abstract tunic from Langford Market / necklace from A Merry Mishap / Deena & Ozzy sandals / vintage clutch {similar one here} / Skagen watch //

I'm really in love with this abstract print. Even the colors pair well with the light mint and the dark periwinkle blending together like a modernist painting. I've been holding onto it for awhile and finally found a nice dinner to wear it to. I don't know if you can tell, but this is actually a size large. But being the only one left, I was determined to make it work. Thankfully, it came with a belt that allows me to cinch it just so and with the larger size, it's long enough to cover my arse.

As a little side note, because of this blog, I have come to enjoy and love photography. I sometimes wonder why I never got into it earlier and think it might have something to do with being able to see the world differently as I, eh hem, mature. I already have a Flickr site but never really felt it was the best way to organize my photos. So as a way to bring peace to my neurotic mind, I have created my photography site here. It's lacking in a lot of ways, but I hope to add more photographic memories as I build a better relationship with my camera.

Mad Men Mode

// vintage top {similar here} / Zara skinnies {some nice ones here} / Deena & Ozzy lucite sandals / Zara bag / random cat eye sunglasses / Target anchor necklace {cute one here} / OrangeistheSun bracelet //

Hey there! Feeling slightly Betty Draperish in these cat eye glasses and cropped skinnies. I wore this combo to a crawfish picnic which was a perfect way to satiate my yearly mudbug cravings.

And because I haven't posted any pics of Baxter lately, here he is just being his photogenic self.

Hi-Topz

// vintage chambray top {similar here} / BDG white tee / Target ponte pants {similar here} / Aldo hi-tops / Urban Outfitters glasses {similiar here} / horn pendant from Ebay /Casio watch //

Contemplating the hype on the new sneaker trend, I realized that I have been a sneaker girl all my life. Remember L.A. Gear? Yeah, I had those. A mint green pair to be exact. I love being on my feet (I'm usually the one standing in a room full of empty chairs), so wearing comfortable shoes is pretty important to me. In college, I lived off of my blue suede Chucks, which I haven't had the heart to part with til now.

Although I've been staring at those Isabel Marant sneakers (yeah, you know what I'm talking about), for me, spending an exorbitant amount on wedge sneakers just didn't seem right. Plus, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole wedge/sneaker combination. On that note, meet my new sneaker buddies- a pair of black hi-tops from Aldo that zip up on the side and have a nice flash of red. Not too trendy but with just the right amount of detail to stand out from the monotone hi-top pack. I can't wait to wear these guys down every chance I get!

Roots Bistro

Bread plate with fire-roasted tomatoes in olive oil dip, popcorn shoots, and delicious Castelvetrano olives

Gnocchi: made with duck egg and smoked gouda
Foie Gras Study: foie gras sausage + smoked foi gras w/ herb creme fraiche + mulberry horseradish reduction + sundried bananas
Kimchi plate: chorizo sausage + salami + kimchi
Veggie plate: fiddlehead fern + glzed baby carrots w/ mulberry and horseradish glaze

Texas smoked gouda creme brulee

My latest foodgasm occurred at Roots Bistro, where the food was fresh, bright, and worth every bite. Not knowing what to expect, Bryan and I went into it with an open mind and very open appetite. The food came out tapas style so expect to order approximately at least two plates per person. I found the 2-plate rule with bread, wine, and sharing one dessert was more than enough to satiate our hunger. But seriously, at a place like this, it's not about scarfing down your meal. Instead, it was the perfect complement to enjoying time with my husband and eating downright good food made of organic and local ingredients.

Also, a shout out to our waiter, Randy, who gave us the best service I ever had in the city. He was patient, helpful, and enthusiastic and went above and beyond to make sure we would get the best experience.
